Coconut Oil is Good for You!
Coconut Oil has been eaten for centuries in the South Pacific; heart disease and high cholesterol were not a problem there until they consumed a more "Western" diet. Why then, is Coconut Oil said to be unhealthy and a "bad fat"? What has caused this truly healthy fat to be labeled as "bad"? What are the health benefits of including Coconut Oil into your diet? What do we need to look for in buying a healthy Coconut Oil? The right fats and oils are so needed by our bodies, they help us lose weight, keep us young, nourish our brains and should surround every cell in our body.
When the original studies were done on Coconut oil, they used a hydrogenated type. Any oil or fat that is hydrogenated becomes unnatural to the body, like a "plastic". Consuming this "plastic" oil can lead to heart disease, high cholesterol, brain dysfunction and other unhealthy conditions. Hydrogenation changes the chemical composition of the oil making it unusable to your body.
With Coconut Oil, as with all fats, you need to be educated on how they are extracted and made. Many oils are extracted using high heats, which turn the good fats into bad fats, forming "trans fatty acids". Numerous chemicals are used to bleach and de-orderize the oils. Coconut Oil should be extracted from fresh coconuts without the use of chemicals or hydrogenation.
The health benefits of Coconut Oil are many: it is good for your thyroid, can boost your metabolism, make your stomach feel fuller, help with weight loss and may even increase energy. It contains "Lauric Acid" which has anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial qualities. Use it externally for massage, to soothe dry skin and to help diminish wrinkles. Remember what you put on your skin absorbs into your body right away.
You can fry with Coconut Oil because it can be heated to a higher temperature without it turning into a bad fat, but be careful not to burn it. Use it in your baking, spread it on your bread, and just include it in your everyday diet. Remember to also eat other healthy oils, such as: extra virgin olive oil, flax oil and fish oils.
This naturally saturated oil is good for you, provided it is extracted in a natural way. With continued use, it will give your body a healthful glow, limber up your joints, boost your metabolism, increase your immune and improve your brain function to provide a better quality of life.
